Kristina Chip receives the 2024 Dorothy Marie Gillespie Humanitarian Award

For the past three years, Pink Ribbon Society has presented the Dorothy Marie Gillespie Humanitarian Award. Peters created the award to recognize a person whose provided love, compassion, empathy and strength in supporting men and women across Northern Indiana whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

Kristina Chip receives the 2024 Dorothy Marie Gillespie Humanitarian Award

Crown Point resident Kristina Chip is the 2024 recipient. She was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 1989 at age 16. At age 22, Chip was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Chip later became the National Director of Education for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization in Chicago. She created the country’s first young women’s support group via a teleconference system, and the first local young women’s support group in Chicago.

She’s been affiliated with various organizations including the FDA Panel concerning issues involving breast cancer reconstruction, Lurie Cancer Center’s Board 39, Imerman Angels and the Service League of Northwest Indiana. Chip was also a member of the Office of Cancer Survivorship at the National Cancer Institute.

Chip and her husband, Greg Chip, are currently partners of the Southlake Nissan/Kia, Mitsubishi and Toyota of Bourbonnais. The couple have donated almost $70,000 to Pink Ribbon Society through an annual fundraiser at their dealerships during the month of October.
